Max Verstappen could reach an important milestone in the United States Grand Prix by scoring his 50th Formula One victory. However, the Red Bull Racing driver himself stresses that the focus is on the race weekend and not on numbers.
With 49 wins, Verstappen has quite a few to his name, but which one did he actually like best? "I don't know. I think they're all just beautiful in a different way. The very first one probably was the most emotional one because that's what you always tried to achieve. I think that was definitely a very special day for me and my family at the time," he said at the Circuit of the Americas.
The three-time world champion doesn't really have a favourite victory. "To pick another one, it's tough." he continued. "It's just about enjoying the moment. Maybe you think about it a bit more later on in your career, but not now."
With the possibility of putting race number 50 to his name, Verstappen is not so concerned. "It's a nice number that I never thought I would hit but now that we are getting close to it, we want to try and expand a little bit more, but we'll see. It's more important that we just focus on the weekend, not on the number," he said.
Given his good track record in Austin and his current form, it seems plausible that Verstappen will be the man to beat this weekend too. "Looking at the season yes, but it's sprint weekend so we have to nail FP1 to make sure that you know the car is working well for qualifying so it's a bit early to say anything at the moment," Verstappen concluded.
