Williams is one of the few teams that has yet to clarify which drivers will be on the grid in 2023. The British formation let Nicholas Latifi go at the end of the season and is therefore looking for a teammate for Alexander Albon. Dave Robson is confident Williams will come up with a strong driver.
The team has had a couple of difficult seasons in Formula 1. Indeed, Williams just cannot manage to get away from the bottom positions. Whereas last year it finished in eighth place with 23 points, this season it is at the bottom.
Albon brought in the most points for Williams, so with Latifi's departure, the racing stable is hoping to see a change in results. De Vries was one of the main candidates to succeed the Canadian in the autumn, but he opted for AlphaTauri.
American Logan Sargeant is reportedly at the top of the list to join Williams in Formula 1. Robson would neither confirm nor deny any names as yet, but the head of vehicle performance maintains that Williams knows full well what it wants.
"We need someone to push Alex and battle with him every race," he stressed in conversation with Formule1.nl. In doing so, Robson believes ambitions need to be raised. "What we want is to have two competitive drivers pushing each other to Q2 or Q3."
It probably would be faster if they pushed the cars Is he kidding himself? I don't think he's kidding the rest of us. That car is terrible
They want two drivers to be pushing each other … and they really think that Logan Sargeant is the driver to do so?? If Mick loses his seat at Haas, Williams will actually do very well to sign him up as he typically takes more than a season in a new category to be good at it. He has improved significantly since the summer break and can only get even better next year. Looking at Sargeant’s racing career, (in cars and not go karts) he has never won a single championship ever, while Mick has won both the F2 and F3 championships.
