Alex Albon is perhaps the driver in
Formula 1 with the most pressure on his shoulders. In his second season as an F1 driver, the Thai has to compete against
Max Verstappen as a teammate, while he has to fight for podiums with
Red Bull Racing. In Brazil and during the first Grand Prix of 2020 he came close to the podium, but in both cases things went wrong in the closing stages.
The pressure on Albon's shoulders is not new to him and he also realises that he can use Verstappen as a teammate. "Max is superfast. The good thing for me is that I have his data, so I can see what he is doing and why he’s so fast. Through the winter we were looking at the points where we could improve", Albon explains in an interview with GQ Magazine.
Taking small steps
Because it took another three months longer to drive in F1, Albon had more time to prepare for his first full season as a Red Bull driver. “With the lockdown it’s just been an extended time to think about that".
Because of that improved preparation of the young driver, Albon expects good performances in the coming season. "I think we have a good rhythm now on my side of the garage and it’s just looking at progress, make small steps and closing the gap", the Thai concludes.
