Fernando Alonso is not yet completely satisfied with the 2021 Alpine car. After 24 hours of testing with the new car there are still plenty of things that can be improved. In any case the Spaniard is looking forward to the start of the F1 season. The 39-year old driver is making his comeback after several seasons of absence from the premier class of motor sport.
"We still have some work to do," Alonso is quoted by Spanish AS . The two-time world champion then lists a few points his team are currently looking at."We still need to understand the car a little bit and we still need to find the performance that we see in the factory and actually exhibit it on the track. But little by little I'm happy and going to enjoy the first races."
As with all the other teams, Alpine didn't look too closely at what the other teams did during last week's three days of winter testing. "You concentrate on your own programme, there are infinite things to test and you don't attach any importance to everyone else's times, because you don't know what they are doing at the time," he explained.
Alonso said he is no longer suffering from the effects of his accident while cycling in Switzerland. In mid February he was hit during a training session. Next week the season starts in Bahrain with the first two free practices.
