On Saturday night Lewis Hamilton posted a short statement on his social media. With this he seemed to hint at a return to Formula 1 and also employer Mercedes seems to confirm through a tweet that we can also enjoy the achievements of the seven-time world champion in 2022.
Hamilton's message was met with a huge number of reactions from fans who frequently used the slogan 'HE IS BACK'. This has not gone unnoticed by Mercedes either. The German formation reacted with its own tweet: 'That's right.'
An official announcement has not been made so far, but it is not expected to follow either. Hamilton and Mercedes have never publicly stated that continuing to race in the premier class of motor sport would be in question. In principle, therefore, driver and team have nothing to react on.
It is reported that Hamilton still hopes for a departure of Michael Masi as race director of Formula 1. The Briton would still be of the opinion that undeniably many mistakes were made in the closing stages of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. A seemingly certain eighth title was thus lost on the very last lap.
