Christian Horner is happy that the Formula One season has begun. The 48-year-old Briton is thoroughly enjoying himself and is happy that Red Bull Racing has managed to build a competitive car with the RB18. Max Verstappen will need to pass Charles Leclerc's Ferrari in the race if he is to win the first Grand Prix of the season. Exactly how big Verstappen's chances are, Horner finds difficult to say.
"It's a voyage of discovery," Horner told Sky Sports. From the winter tests, it was difficult to see exactly how fast all the teams would be, but after qualifying in Bahrain it became clear how the ratios are. For Red Bull, they should mainly look at Ferrari, because the difference with the Italian formation is marginal.
In qualifying, the difference was one-tenth, but in terms of race pace, much is still unclear. In the Friday practice sessions, the teams simulated a few things, but it does not give a very reliable picture. We have to wait until Sunday.
"We don't really know how strong their long-run pace is and we have more to find out about ourselves. We had a decent run yesterday, but it's going to be about when the lights go out tomorrow that we really see the shape we are in," Horner added.
