Mercedes-man George Russell qualified sixth for the United States Grand Prix, half a tenth off teammate Lewis Hamilton in fifth. Despite being clear of the midfield and closer to the frontrunners, Russell finds himself frustrated with the session.

For George Russell, there wasn't much he could do in his Mercedes W13. Not even teammate Lewis Hamilton could challenge for Pole Position in the machine, leading the two of them to set the fifth and sixth best times, behind the two Red Bulls and Ferraris.

"When you go into a qualifying session you always dream and believe but we have to be realistic. We know qualifying isn't our strongest point but we'll take it. Probably the furthest we've been from the midfield and closest we've been to the front for a while," the Mercedes driver vented his frustrations to Sky.

It has been a frustrating past few races for Russell and he definetely knows it, remarking; "I am not going to be celebrating because I'm half a tenth off, I'm disappointed with that. It's been a tricky couple of races for various reasons that I'm not sure exactly what it is. We had a clean run of form and no issues with the car, then we got to Singapore had a problem with the brakes and that happened again in Japan. Here it was a smooth qualifying session, to get closer to where I was at the start of the year,"
