While his teammate Max Verstappen celebrated his 17th Grand Prix victory of the season, Sergio Perez missed the podium in Brazil. Not for the first time, and this time in an embarrassing way too. Fernando Alonso managed to keep Perez behind, giving the inferior Aston Martin the last position on the podium.
For Mexican sports newspaper Esto, the 2023 Sao Paulo Grand Prix is expected to go down in the history books because of the battle between Perez and Alonso. "In a great race, Sergio 'Checo' Perez finished fourth in the Brazilian Grand Prix and was close to the podium, but at the last moment Fernando Alonso snatched it from him, in a race dominated by Max Verstappen, who took first place while Lando Norris finished second," the medium wrote quite clinically.
But - so is the good news - Perez did finish ahead of Lewis Hamilton. This allowed the Mexican to extend his lead over the Briton in the championship. With two races to go, Perez has 258 points, while Hamilton has to make do with 226. "So fourth place gives Checo some breathing space," Esto concluded.
