At Aston Martin, all is doom and gloom. Team boss Otmar Szafnauer decided to leave the team of owner Lawrence Stroll and the AMR22 is not moving forward in 2022. The UK-based stable is the only team that has yet to score any points in the first three Grands Prix of the year. According to Gian Carlo Minardi, Sebastian Vettel should follow Szafnauer's example as soon as possible.
The founder of the now non-existent Minardi team argues that there is absolutely nothing for Vettel to gain in Formula 1 at the moment. The four-time world champion is at the end of his career and there is no indication that Aston Martin will be able to catch up with the sub top during this year. Minardi believes that Vettel should hang up his helmet on the willows.
"He should retire. He has a lot of money, he has won a lot of titles, but he is not going to win more [titles]," Minardi said in an interview with the Italian medium Corriere. At the moment, winning Grands Prix is unachievable for Vettel, let alone winning a fifth world championship in the pinanacle of motor sport.
Vettel missed the first two Grands Prix because of a corona infection and so the start of the year is anything but what Vettel had hoped for. To make matters worse, he also crashed out in Australia, the first race where he appeared at the start. It is to be hoped for Vettel and Aston Martin that things will improve during the weekend in Imola.
