There are quite a few incidents involving fans at Formula 1 weekends this year. Not only are signs stolen from the circuit after Sunday's race, in Austria several women did not feel safe after other fans displayed racist, sexist and homophobic behaviour. Sergio Perez does not have a good word to say about it.
"They are not welcome here. We should ban them for life because they don't share our values. A few fans shouldn't be able to embarrass our sport like that," Perez stated to the BBC ahead of the twelfth GP of the season in France. The Mexican therefore believes that fans like these should be banned for life from attending the pinnacle of motor sport.
Formula 1 has gained a lot of popularity in recent years and that means there has been a shift in the fan base. The drivers themselves, including Fernando Alonso, are not so happy about this. The two-time world champion compares the new, younger audience with football fans.
Sebastian Vettel states in the aforementioned medium that he disapproves of the behaviour of some fans, but he does not think that only Formula 1 is affected. The Aston Martin driver says: ""It has been going on for some time at all major sporting events. It is more than about time that it is changing because there is no space for those things."
