Daniel Ricciardo finished fifteenth in the second free practice session, but that was mainly due to the fact that a large part of FP2 passed him by due to problems with his McLaren car.
"We had an issue so we came in and lets say a few checks to get through and we couldn't.... or let's say wasn't worth the risk of going out", he revealed to Sky Sports. So it was just a handful of laps for the Perth-based driver, who saw teammate Lando Norris set the twelfth fastest time.
Ricciardo: "I got a few laps on the hard and that was it. Track conditions are a bit slow but you could see this morning all the dust. I think tomorrow will still be slippery in the morning. I have definitely not written it off yet. It obviously gives us a bit more work to do but its definitely not out of reach. Lando's first run looked a bit better this afternoon. So, we will dissect that," says the current world championship number eight.

Gearbox

The problem seemed to be related to the gearbox of the 32-year old Australian. Whether the damage is permanent will be seen tomorrow. Ricciardo was not the only one with gearbox problems in the second free practice session, as George Russell also saw his session come to an early end due to a similar issue.
