Nyck de Vries has completed his programme for 2024. Ideally, the 28-year-old driver would have loved to drive in Formula 1 next season, but the Dutchman was sacked early from AlphaTauri earlier this year. Next season, De Vries will compete in Formula E and - as it was announced this week - in the WEC at Toyota. Max Verstappen is happy for him.
De Vries, a single world champion in Formula E, will look for another title in the electric class at Mahindra. That confirmation already came at the end of September, but the man from Sneek was still looking for an adventure in addition. After all, the FE calendar only runs from January to mid-July.
De Vries has now found the extra challenge in the WEC, where he has previously made his appearance. De Vries has signed a contract with Toyota's top team. He is expected to compete for wins there on a regular basis.
Speaking from Abu Dhabi, Verstappen revealed, "I was just waiting for the announcement. I knew that it was happening. So I'm very happy for him. But also, it was nice to see that he immediately got these kind of opportunities again. Everyone rates him very highly. Now I'm excited to see what he can do," said the Red Bull Racing driver, who is a big fan of endurance racing himself.
