Aston Martin are hoping for a longer stay for Fernando Alonso. Mike Krack said in Abu Dhabi that his team intends to sign the two-time world champion to a new contract.
Working with Alonso pleases team boss Krack immensely. "I only have positive things to mention. I think as a team we were blown away [by his way of working] from the first day. Until today actually [...]. I think we gained a remarkable team player to our team. Always constructive."
"Especially when things were difficult," adds Krack. "When the car was competitive or more competitive, it is obviously easier to be constructive. But the true qualities came out. Let's take this Mexico example. Both drivers, it would have been easy to take the microphones and slam the team or go against the team. And it would also have probably been deserved. But I think the true qualities of the team playing character of both drivers came out in that time. And for me, that is one of the highlights of the season as a team. That we managed to stick together in that time."
The 42-year-old Spaniard's contract expires after 2024. Whether there is any desire to extend it? A rhetorical question, says Krack. "I don't think I have to answer that question. Absolutely, yes."
