FP1
The conditions proved very tricky in the first session of the race weekend, with drivers slipping and sliding all over the wet track. FP1 was stopped three times, with
Kimi Raikkonen and
Sergio Pérez having shunts in their respective cars.
As time progressed, the track dried up and the blue full-wet tyres were swapped for the green intermediates and the times dropped quickly.
Ferrari even went out on slicks in the final minutes, proving a qualifying-esque shoot-out at the death of the eventful session.
Leclerc proved the quickest man, with the
McLarens of
Carlos Sainz and
Lando Norris following the SF90 in second and third respectively.
FP2
By the time FP2 started, the Monza track had fully dried and we got a more complete view of where each team's pace was at, although Leclerc proved quickest again in dry conditions.
Behind him was the Mercedes of
Lewis Hamilton, who split the two Ferraris as
Sebastian Vettel finished in third, with
Valtteri Bottas following in fourth and the two
Red Bulls closely following the Finn. Margins were slim, however, with
Max Verstappen's time being just four-tenths off pacesetter Leclerc.
Live blog
Ferrari are once again expected to flex their Italian muscles in FP3 in front of their home crowd, with the team's last win at Monza coming in 2010 at the hands of Fernando Alonso.
As we likely won't see Verstappen later today in qualifying, FP3 should also give us a solid impression of where the Dutchman is at in terms of race pace, as he has another comeback race on his hands.
