Everybody knows that Singapore is a tough race for the drivers, given the heat and the strange start time, but Red Bull’s Max Verstappen has gone one step further and called it “physically the hardest” race on the F1 calendar.
Formula One first came to Singapore in 2008 and the night race has been on the calendar ever since, providing an alternate and exciting race every year.
The Singaporean Grand Prix is also not Verstappen’s favourite track given his results there. The Dutchman finished a solid eighth on his debut Singapore GP for Toro Rosso, but since he has recorded a 6th place and then a DNF after the first lap pile-up he was involved in with both Ferrari drivers.
However, Red Bull have a package that ought to suit the layout of the Marina Bay circuit, so Verstappen’s luck could be set to change.
Verstappen has explained how hard he believes the Grand Prix is, saying: “The night race and hot temperatures really test you to the limit, for me Singapore is physically the hardest race of the season. I have been preparing for quite a while.”
Verstappen continued, saying how he believes the race creates a good team spirit before the end of season push: “A night race in general is a bit different with the lights, it adds an extra aspect that we don't have at the majority of races.
“The atmosphere around the whole weekend creates a great buzz and is a perfect way to kick off the fly away races."
