'He's on the same level as Verstappen's teammate'

Jean Todt argues that Pierre Gasly could deliver the same at Red Bull Racing as Sergio Perez at the moment. The French driver was previously given a chance at Red Bull, but was then pushed aside after six months.
Gasly is making a particularly strong impression on behalf of AlphaTauri in 2021. The Frenchman returned to the Faenza-based team disillusioned midway through 2019, but has quickly put the disappointment of his failed adventure at Red Bull behind him. The president of the FIA even claims that Gasly would do much better at the Austrian racing stable now.
Gasly back to a top team?
''If Pierre Gasly were driving a Mercedes or a Red Bull today, he would make things very difficult for everyone. I don't know if he would win a world title, but at least he would be on the same level as the teammates of Verstappen and Hamilton'', says the Frenchman in conversation with beIN SPORTS.
According to Todt, F1 is also much more about the car than the driver. ''There are maybe two or three drivers who have something extra, but what makes the biggest difference is the car they get. We saw it with many talented drivers. Fernando Alonso is an exceptional driver, but today he doesn't have a car with which he can win'', Todt concludes.
