Mercedes had been the best team in
Formula 1 since the major rule changes in 2014. For seven years in a row, the German racing stable managed to twin both the Constructors' and Drivers' Championship. Last season the team also competed for the world title, but that went to
Max Verstappen. Team boss
Toto Wolff knows that his team will have to work hard in the new racing year.
Indeed,
Formula 1 is once again experiencing some major changes in 2022, which means that there is a significant chance that there will be shifts between teams. It caused Mercedes to work extra hard in recent months to provide
Lewis Hamilton and
George Russell with a competitive car.
Wolff finds changes in Formula 1 fascinating
Whereas
Red Bull Racing and Mercedes were by far the best teams in the driver field last season, they are expected to face competition from
Ferrari and
McLaren this calendar year. Although it creates additional uncertainty for Wolff, he is ready to take on the fight.
"Obviously from a fan's perspective, which I count myself in as well, looking at the other concepts and seeing what everybody comes out with, and the interpretation of the regulations, is fascinating," he revealed to
Formula One's official website.
"This is also what makes Formula 1."
