After Haas F1 parted ways with Nikita Mazepin and title sponsor Uralkali, the Russian and his father Dmitry Mazepin are now also being punished by the EU. Their names have been added to the sanctions list of influential Russians because of their ties to Vladimir Putin's government.

The EU sanctions are implemented as a result of the war in Ukraine. Mazepin's father took part in a meeting with Putin on February 24, which is cited as evidence that he's "supporting or implementing actions or policies" that threaten Ukraine, reports Andrew Benson of the BBC on Twitter. Mazepin's father also makes a significant financial contribution to Russia as head of Uralkali.

A few days ago, Haas confirmed they were terminating the contract with Mazepin and Uralkali immediately. On Wednesday, the Russian came out with the news that he is setting up a foundation for Russian athletes who are excluded from their sport because of the war in Ukraine. Mazepin does not agree with the consequences for the drivers, and further informed that he has not heard anything from Haas about the breakup.

Replacement Mazepin

Pietro Fittipaldi will be in action for Haas during the test days in Bahrain from March 10 to 12. The team has not yet confirmed who will take over Mazepin's seat during the season. The Brazilian will have to be patient though, as due to a cargo delay, he will not be able to be in action until Thursday afternoon.
