Hamilton: "Red Bull looks ridiculously fast, but Mercedes is the best team"

In the run-up to the 2022 Formula 1 season, Mercedes is, as always, trying to slip into the role of underdog. Lewis Hamilton is happy to play along, but in the meantime remains convinced that his own team is the best. Still, he thinks the rivals at Red Bull Racing look "ridiculously fast".
Max Verstappen's name was at the top of the timesheet at the end of the winter test, while Mercedes struggled with balance issues. The team was also still suffering from a lot of porpoising. For Hamilton, this was reason enough to state that he does not see Mercedes competing for victories at the moment, but that opinion is not shared by many people.
Hamilton calls Red Bull 'ridiculously fast'
During the Expo 2020 Dubai, the 37-year-old Briton said the test days were difficult. He also noticed that the competition looks particularly strong for the time being. "Red Bull is looking ridiculously fast at the moment and so are the Ferraris," he says. However, he adds defiantly, "But we are the best team, undoubtedly."
Few people expect Mercedes to actually struggle to keep up with the competition, but according to the Mercedes driver, it depends on what his team will do in the coming days. He hopes they manage to "find more power" and fix the problem with porpoising.
