Perez on third: "I regret the decision we made"
- Rafael Diaz Lehmann
Sergio Perez seems to have made massive strides in his qualifying pace in 2022. After taking a maiden pole position in the previous round in Saudi Arabia, the Mexican driver will be starting from third for the Australian GP, though he isn't thrilled about it.
Could've been better
On the grid immediately after qualifying, Perez expressed his slight dissapointment with the result, "Q1 and Q2 we were running good and with all the red flags its very hard to keep the momentum going. I regret a bit the decision we took going into Q3 with our strategy on the tyres but I think P3 is a decent start for tomorrow."
The Mexican driver was well in the fight for pole-position, topping Q2 convincingly. It looked like a repeat of Saudi Arabia was on the cards, but in Q3 Leclerc and Verstappen jumped Perez, domoting him to the second-row.
Still positive
Even with the sligh dissapointment, the Red Bull driver kept positive, "I think we have a nice race ahead of us. I hope we make a lot of Aussies very happy tomorrow."
