Charles Leclerc managed to secure pole position for the Australian Grand Prix. The Monegasque defeated Max Verstappen in the closing stages of the race, leaving the Dutchman to start the race in second place.

Ferrari and Red Bull Racing were the big favorites to fight for the front places prior to qualifying. This was evident, because with Verstappen, Leclerc, Sergio Perez and Carlos Sainz, the spectators saw the same drivers setting the fastest times every lap.

Just before the end of Q3 Verstappen seemed that he would start from pole position, but nothing was further from the truth. Leclerc set a great time and managed to beat his competitor. As a result, Verstappen has to start from second place, while Perez starts on P3.

Sainz disappoints for Ferrari

Sainz disappointed in the third session by setting the ninth fastest time. He came more than one and a half seconds short of his teammate. Lando Norris, Lewis Hamilton, George Russell, Daniel Ricciardo, Esteban Ocon and Fernando Alonso all reached the top ten as well.
