Lando Norris hoped prior to the season that he could compete for the world title in 2022, but nothing is further from the truth for now. McLaren appeared to be struggling with several problems in the first races, leaving it lagging behind the competition. For now, therefore, Norris believes it is important to remain realistic.

During the first two Grands Prix, McLaren was not a shadow of the team that wanted to fight for the top places this season. Behind the scenes, the racing stable worked hard on improvements. It ensured an excellent result in the GP of Australia.

Norris sees McLaren making progress

Although Norris' fifth place finish in Australia gives him confidence, at the same time he thinks it is important to look at the facts. According to the British driver, McLaren's direct competitors still have a lead, so his team mainly has to work hard to get closer.

"We’re not back fighting for podiums just yet, but hopefully we can keep moving forward and get the most out of this weekend," Norris told in McLaren's preview. "We know we still have a lot of work to do to get where we want to be. Let’s keep improving, keep learning more about the car and be ready to take advantage of any opportunities that come up."
