With that, red flags were waved no less than four times during qualifying for the sprint race in Imola, making the session last forty minutes longer than planned.
Verstappen was in the process of improving Charles Leclerc's fastest time when he ran into a yellow flag in the third sector due to Bottas' stationary Alfa Romeo. The Dutchman clearly went off the gas and seemed to abort his lap, but nevertheless, it proved enough for the fastest time.
