Gerhard Berger is convinced that Audi and Porsche are ready for Formula 1 and that the deal between Porsche and Red Bull Racing is already in the works. He also thinks that a collaboration between Sauber and Audi would be a good option.

The Volkswagen Group is interested in the next generation of Formula 1 power units in 2026 and it seems increasingly certain that Volkswagen will step into F1. Volkswagen's involvement in F1 is expected to be through the Porsche and Audi brands.

Berger is confident that both Porsche and Audi will make F1 entrances. "I think with both brands", he says in conversation with Speedweek.com when asked whether he expects Volkswagen to enter the sport. Furthermore, the former F1 driver suspects that the cooperation between Porsche and Red Bull is already a done deal.

'Porsche and Red Bull deal fixed'

Porsche has been strongly linked for months to a deal with Red Bull to join forces. "Porsche and Red Bull Racing seem to me to be fixed", explains Berger.

Audi is said to have previously made a bid for McLaren, but the German brand would not meet the team's financial demands. Now the brand is being linked to Aston Martin and Sauber. "I think Sauber would have a very solid base. The team is currently doing very well under the Alfa Romeo name," Berger says.
