Toto Wolff is still very much in favour of the way Lewis Hamilton showed himself in the Spanish Grand Prix. The team boss sees this as a possible tipping point for the rest of the season, he tells The Race.
Hamilton started the race from sixth place, but after a collision with Kevin Magnussen, he fell back to the back positions. For the seven-time world champion, there was nothing left to do but fight his way back into the points. With a final fifth place, he could be satisfied.
Wolff was impressed and expressed his admiration in the interview. "That’s basically game over," he looks back on the incident. "But him continuing and then showing this very good pace was important. It was not only his morale but also our morale."
The Austrian is not only complimentary about Hamilton, but he is also very satisfied with the team. The team boss believes that during a race weekend it is always about the dynamics between the team and driver. Wolff saw that this interaction worked very well in Barcelona. Next weekend the next GP awaits, as the teams travel to Monaco.
We see now a Russell is better than Hamilton comment surge.Let us not get carried away, both good drivers but Russell is no Hamilton YET. Young ,enthusiastic and yes fast, but without the experience. It will come ,like all young drivers but whether he will last ,we will see.And be aware I DON,T like Hamilton!
They still need straight line speed. GR was passed by SP like his power unit had gone off. Mercedes needs to find 1 full second in order to start winning andbkeep winning
1 full second Ok mr chakka. Lets bring back that spicy spicy brazil engine
Toto continuing to prop up the ego of his second (distant second) driver while ignoring the best driver in the Merc garage.
All I noticed was that with 18 cars remaining Lewis in the 3rd fastest car made up 13 places over 61 laps to finish 5th by waiting until the straight to pass them with DRS. Started 6th, finished 5th. Crickets.
Started 6th finished 5th after a DNF from the guy who started 1st so you could say he started 6th and finished 6th when discounting DNFs.
Wolff gave up after the incident just like Hamilton wanted to do? They really do deserve each other. Luckily Hamilton's engineer kept his head on straight and told him to keep going.
