Hamilton has high hopes in Mercedes performance

Mercedes performed excellently in the Spanish Grand Prix. Whereas the German racing stable has had a rough season start, it seemed to have picked up the right pace in Barcelona. Lewis Hamilton, however, finds it difficult to say what this means for the coming months.
Hamilton collided with Kevin Magnussen early in the race in Spain, forcing him to continue it at the back. He then still managed to drive to fifth place and thus secure ten important points for his team.
The driver does not know what would have happened if he had not experienced the collision with the Dane. "I have no idea. It's all ifs and buts but we had good pace," he informed Sky Sports. "We weren't expecting it. We were hoping to be close to the Ferraris, but I think Charles pace was ahead of everyones."
Hamilton hopes for a strong performance in Monaco
In the coming GPs, Mercedes hopes to continue developing the car and get closer to Red Bull Racing and Ferrari. Hamilton is keeping all options open for the time being. "It's too early to say. We know there's potential in the car," he states. "This is a completely different track, I'm hoping it's not up and down."
