FIA explains: 'Rolling start had nothing to do with the rain'

The Monaco Grand Prix kicked off with a rolling start and where it was initially thought to be because of a safety issue, the FIA let it be known after the Grand Prix why a normal start was not possible.

After several formation laps behind the safety car, the race in Monaco opened as a rolling start. Charles Leclerc determined the moment he would start and then the rest of the field got going. Normally the start is simply done as a standing start, but in Monaco this was not possible.

In fact, the FIA revealed that due to the heavy rain there was a problem with the starting system. This was also the reason why the start was initially postponed. Even after the red flag, a rolling start was resumed, although this was perhaps also fair since the dirty side of the grid was still wet and the drivers started on slicks.
