OFFICIAL: Perez extends his contract at Red Bull Racing until 2024
- GPblog.com
The news only needed to be confirmed after the Monaco Grand Prix on Sunday after Perez let it slip. Sergio Perez will drive for Red Bull Racing until at least 2024. The Mexican already seemed to reveal it on the way to the podium opposite Christian Horner and now the team has officially announced that they are offering the Mexican a multi-year contract.
The Mexican signed for Red Bull at the end of 2020, when he managed to win the Sakhir Grand Prix for Racing Point. In 2021, he then played a hugely important role as the second driver alongside Max Verstappen, including in Abu Dhabi. As a result, the Dutchman managed to win the world title for the first time.
Steady lineup for Red Bull
In 2022, the cards seemed to be shuffled again and there was an equal treatment between Perez and Verstappen. In Barcelona, however, the Mexican was still ordered to step aside for Verstappen. At the time it was already known that contract negotiations were underway between Perez and Red Bull. In Monaco Perez won his third race in his career, after which he let slip to Christian Horner in front of the camera that he had signed too early.
With the contract extension, Red Bull has their lineup set for the next two seasons in Formula 1. Perez, in fact, will drive for Horner's team with the new contract through 2024. From Verstappen, it was already clear that he will be driving for a long time with the team after his first world title and he currently has a contract until 2028.
