Emerson Fittipaldi is praising Sergio Perez. The Mexican must hold the honour for Latin America in Formula 1 and did so with verve in Monaco by winning the Grand Prix.
Perez has started the 2022 Formula 1 season strongly. The Red Bull driver has already finished on the podium three times, including once on the top step in Monaco. He was the first Mexican to do so and according to Fittipaldi, it was only right.
Perez lord and master
''He deserved to be there. He was there because of his speed. He was faster than Max (Verstappen) in qualifying and he drove fast in the race. I want to congratulate Checo Perez, because this weekend he was the 'Master of Monaco'. He won the race under enormous pressure and didn't make a single mistake,'' said the 1972 and 1974 world champion to Vegasinsider.com.
As a Brazilian, Fittipaldi looks at Checo in a special way. ''It's a fantastic victory for Mexico and for Latin America. We only have one driver from Latin America in F1, where there used to be five or six. Now we all count on Perez and he did a great job,'' Fittipaldi concluded.
