It's almost race weekend in Canada and that means the drivers are all in Montreal and trickling into the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve around this time. Sebastian Vettel is also in attendance and he has a special message.

On Thursday afternoon before the start of the Canadian Grand Prix, the four-time world champion could be found at the F1 grounds wearing a white T-shirt with the picture of a pipeline that read, "Stop Mining Tar Sands. Canada's Climate Crime." Vettel is taking action for the climate again, specifically focusing on issues currently facing Canada.

Vettel commits to climate issue in Canada

In Canada, in fact, oil is being drilled heavily in the Athabasca oil sands, also known as the Athabasca tar sands. The work being done there has been described as extremely invasive to human and animal existence. The oil companies have dug mines that cover an area larger than the city of New York.

This is not the first time Vettel has been seen with a playful or activist message. For example, he recently wore underwear over his race overalls as a protest against F1 race management, but the Aston Martin driver also often speaks out about climate issues, such as in Miami. The photos below show the German wearing his new shirt. Vettel is also cycling on his bike with the colors of the LGBTQ+ community as part of 'pride month'.
