Magnussen knows what needs to be done in race: "We have to score points"
- Toby McLuskie
Kevin Magnussen and Haas have struggled in recent weeks but on the rain-soaked Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, the Dane found himself in P5 at the end of qualifying, one place ahead of his teammate Mick Schumacher.
"I am really excited and looking forward to the race," he told Sky Sports whilst smiling, "I would like to win tomorrow but we have to score points, starting P5 has made it a bit easier. We don't have to hang on to P5 but made the job easier."
The Dane added how happy he was with the performance in hard conditions, stating, "I'm very happy for the team. Mick did a great job as well to put it P6. We are P5 and P6 tomorrow, it's a great effort by the team."
Wet weather a strength for Haas
The Haas driver went on to explain how the team was hopeful of a strong performance after seeing the conditions and knowing that it was a strength of theirs: "it was what we had hoped for. We have seen before in Imola that we like these conditions and we got the job done today. It was about continuously trying to put a better lap together because the track was getting better and better. So, you had to push all the time."
