Schumacher hopeful for points tomorrow: "It will be tough but we will try"
- Toby McLuskie
Mick Schumacher will join his teammate Kevin Magnussen on the third row of the grid tomorrow, after qualifying in P6 today in wet conditions, knowing that a points finish should be the main goal for the race. However, the German knows how tough it will be with cars behind chasing the Haas duo.
"I always loved racing in the wet conditions and trying to find the limit, and at a track like this, there is big potential in drivers showing that they can do. It will be tough [to score points] but we will try out best," he told Sky Sports after qualifying.
The Haas driver was confident in the wet conditions and was grateful for the strength of his car: "The car was great, especially in these conditions. I found grip everywhere I could [on track] which is what I wanted, but unfortunately, with the last set of tyres, it wasn't the case."
Sainz causing yellow flag ruined final run
Carlos Sainz ventured into the run-off zone at turn four during qualifying which affected those behind him, one being Schumacher. The German finished off by stating that this did have an effect on the way his final run went down, "I had to slow down because of Carlos and my tyres cooled down and that didn't help into turn 1. Then the mess started. The last run wasn't great, but it is something that I can build."
