Despite struggles Sainz managed a maiden pole
In his 150th Grand Prix, Carlos Sainz managed to grasp his first pole in his Formula One career. Although the Spaniard didn't think his lap wasn't exactly pole-worthy, it just shows that anything can happen in the treacherous conditions around Silverstone.
Pole despite struggles for Sainz
"I put together a lap that was nothing special, put it on the board and it was a bit of a surprise to see it on pole position." Sainz tells as he also admits to struggling throughout the final session "I was struggling with the standing water in the intermediate, more on the racing line. Easy to get snaps and lose the lap. More difficult to get the temperature in these conditions."
Reflection and looking ahead
"I think so, the pace has been there all weekend except for FP3 but we think we have corrected those. We should be in a good position to hold on to it, i'm sure Max and Charles will add lots of pressure"
Horrid weather at Silverstone.
"Thank you so much. Thank you to the crowd for cheering. Thanks, everyone for staying in the rain. We struggled with this rain but we can tell you guys are used to it." Sainz jokes with the Silverstone crowd, as the weather throughout qualifying was typically British.
