Alpine seeks to join the top: 'We are at the front of the midfield'

Fernando Alonso is on a very strong run of races. After a somewhat difficult start to 2022, the Spaniard has scored points in every race since his home Grand Prix in Spain.
Alpine and Alonso in top form
In Britain, Alonso added a neat fifth place to his 2022 results. This puts him in tenth place in the drivers' standings, but does not reflect his form. Since the Spanish Grand Prix, the 40-year-old driver has not finished lower than two ninth positions. His highlight came in the Canadian GP qualifying, where he qualified his Alpine in the rain in second place.
Alpine F1 Team brought a large package of updates to Silverstone, with which Alonso is very happy. "The car was very good, I felt more competitive than ever compared to other races," the Spaniard is quoted by AS.com. Ferrari, Red Bull Racing and Mercedes are still a size too big for Alpine, Alonso knows. "But we are at the front, ahead of the other cars in the middle."
Alonso's future
Alonso's contract with Alpine expires in 2022, but the two-time champion is not done racing in Formula 1. He hopes to continue for at least two more years. He himself expects to announce his future after the summer break.
