Leclerc: 'I will be champion if I win everything and Verstappen finishes second'

Charles Leclerc has certainly not given up hope of a world title in 2022. The Monegasque lost 25 points in the French Grand Prix to closest rival Max Verstappen, who has now moved up to 63 points in the lead.

Leclerc does not give up

"Maybe people will think I'm crazy, but when I see the statistics, I know that if I win every race and Max comes second without driving the fastest lap every time, I've seen it on Twitter, we can still win the championship," Leclerc said in front of the microphone of RTBF.

Leclerc is not the only one at Ferrari holding out hope for the title. Team boss Mattia Binotto revealed on Monday that the Scuderia wants to go into the summer break with a one-two in Hungary, while Carlos Sainz thinks Verstappen might make a few mistakes later in the season.

Ten more races to win

"So now I just have to win all the remaining races. It won't be easy, but that's the spirit we have to have. Otherwise I can stay at home. What motivates me in F1 is winning, so I will believe in it until the end," Leclerc concluded.

I doubt Charles car can finish season without gaining grid penalties due to parts replacement. So highly unlikely that he can win all remaining races.

I would prefer him not to bother with the title and just concentrate on the next race. We can say that it is combativeness, but I don't think he needs it, that in this situation he is thinking about winning the championship. Somehow it seems to me that he thinks and analyzes too much, and he doesn't need that right now. This is an opportunity for him to train his psyche, to give his best under pressure, and to gain confidence that he can do it. That he can win all the races, realistically now it seems practically impossible, but even if he doesn't succeed, his biggest gain will be that experience.

CL has the talent and the car has the speed, but poor car reliability will make this improbable. And if last weekend was indeed his error, thats going to play on your mind.

Everything can happened in this strange season but RBR is the favourite because they have much more experience after the last season fight with Mercedes and their team is much more stronger than Mercedes

Last season RB strategy was 99% of the times on point. RB are agressive with their strategy and take action fast. Merc was usually waiting for RB to do something and just respond.

I ve made a mistake. I I wanted to say that RBR is much more stronger than Ferrari but it works even with Mercedes because in spite of their fight until the last race, RBR delivered a better for this season...So the coment it work both ways..

He has to start from back of the grid atleast twice, so he needs to win remaining 8 races and hope that something goes wrong with Max in atleast two races which is very unlikely but possible. If you add in reliability concerns and strategic blunders it seems impossible.

Nice the see the fighting spirit in Leclerc. But this is a huge "if"

In some races, especially with a fresher engine, Sainz will be faster (probably in hungary). Ferrari have refused to designate a #1 driver. I cant imagine the confusion on the radio!!! Not another Silverstone please!

He's right though. Just win everything. Thats all. Doesn't matter where Max finishes if he does that.
