Alonso confirmed at Aston Martin, door open for Piastri to debut at Alpine

On Monday morning after the Hungarian Grand Prix, the Formula One world woke up in shock. Fernando Alonso makes the switch from Alpine to Aston Martin at the age of 41. This clears the way for super talent Oscar Piastri to join the French team.
After winning Formula 2, Piastri had to watch from the sidelines as Alpine's test and reserve driver for a year. The question for a long time was whether he would finally be able to make his debut with the French team in 2023, but for a long time it seemed that Alonso would stay on as a driver.
Vettel's departure sets silly season in motion
Vettel's departure from Aston Martin meant that one place on the 2023 grid will become vacant in any case. Nyck de Vries, Nico Hulkenberg and Piastri himself seemed to be in the picture to replace the four-time world champion, but in the end Aston Martin managed to persuade Alonso to drive for the British formation rather than spend an extra year or two with Alpine.
As a result, it seems only a matter of time before Piastri is appointed as Alpine's driver for 2023. The young Australian has the right talent and team boss Otmar Szafnauer has already indicated several times in the media that Piastri will drive in Formula 1 in 2023.
