Alfa Romeo is leaving F1 as Sauber's title sponsor at the end of 2023, but the Italian brand is knocking on the door of other teams, according to Joe Saward. At his latest blog the F1 journalist reports that enquiries have been made to Haas.

The partnership between Alfa Romeo and Sauber will end at the end of 2023. Most likely, Sauber and Audi will then pick up the thread and the German brand will become the new owner of the team, including its own engine that Audi will introduce from 2026. However, Alfa Romeo itself wants to stay in the sport and is therefore knocking on other parties' doors.

Alfa Romeo out of F1

According to Saward, Alfa Romeo has knocked on Haas' door to enter into a similar deal as it did with Sauber. Alfa Romeo would then become the team's title sponsor and supply the engine on behalf of Ferrari. However, the journalist is not convinced that this deal will go through, as a big American party is coming to Haas and will reportedly fund the team for the next three years.

So Alfa Romeo will have to look for another brand within F1 to sponsor from 2024, but the question is which team will be open to that? Apart from Haas and Sauber, there are few small teams on the grid and certainly none that want their name to disappear from the sport. Williams, for example, wants to keep the name of its late founder and AlphaTauri, too, won't simply join forces with the Italian brand.
