Carlos Sainz has had a mediocre season. The Spaniard has won only one race so far, the British Grand Prix. Sainz therefore hopes he can add another win to his list in the final races of the season.
It has been a tough year for Sainz at Ferrari. The Spaniard has already dropped out of races four times due to his own mistakes or the poor reliability of the Ferrari engine. In the drivers' championship, Sainz is fifth behind George Russell, 32 points clear of his teammate Charles Leclerc on P2.
With only six races left on the calendar, Sainz hopes he can put in good performances with his team. Red Bull Racing looks very fast at the moment with five wins in a row for Max Verstappen. Still, the Ferrari driver hopes his team can improve the car to take home a win in the final stages of the season.
Sainz wants to turn the tide
"I am capable of fighting for wins. I think in the last races we have been fighting for pole positions and wins, although it is true that Red Bull is at an incredible level and they are making it very difficult for us. If we can improve the car and the race pace a bit and find a few tenths, then we can come back in the fight to win. That's the goal", Sainz says in conversation with Marca.
At Silverstone, Sainz took the very first victory of his Formula 1 career. The Spaniard believes he has made good progress this season, although he has had a lot of bad luck. Still, Sainz believes he cannot complain with a win and six podium finishes.
