Carlos Sainz is in his second year of racing at Ferrari. Whereas he had to adapt to the car in his opening year, he is experiencing an excellent second season. The Spaniard even managed to take his first win at Silverstone and kept a good feeling about it, he told Motorsport.com.
Sainz made an excellent start to the weekend in early July by driving seven hundredths faster than Max Verstappen in qualifying and securing pole position. However, the driver did not manage to hold this spot for long in the race, as within no time the Dutchman was already ahead of him.
The Ferrari driver remembers well that he was bitter about losing his position, but remained confident of a good outcome. "We had a difficult start this year and at the first one I lost a position to Max, but I got a second chance," he commented.

He indeed turned out to be given a chance. Verstappen suffered damage to the floor of his car during the race due to bad luck, which meant he lost a lot of time on the competition and was limited on the track. It gave Sainz the opportunity to go for his first career victory.
"In doing so, I was determined not to let that opportunity slip away, so I did everything I could," Sainz finished. Besides his victory in Britain, he managed to secure second-place finishes in Bahrain, Monaco and Canada. In Saudi Arabia, Miami, Belgium and Singapore, he was good for third place.
