Russell thinks it's most likely to win title within five years at Mercedes

His first F1 season with Mercedes did not yet bring George Russell what he expected, but the Briton believes he is in the right place to win an F1 title within five years. With his own results so far, he has not disappointed either.
Russell is currently in his fourth F1 season. The Mercedes driver had to wait three years at straggler Williams for a spot with the top team. Precisely 2022 is the year when Mercedes got off to a difficult start. Although Russell performed strongly and outclassed his teammate Lewis Hamilton, especially at the start of the season, there has still been no victory this season. Russell did not expect that from the eight-time constructors' champion.
Russell is in the right place at Mercedes for the future world title
In an interview with GQ-magazine.com Russell said, "I went into the season with an open mind because I appreciated the opportunity and recognised the season as a totally new era where there were no certainties. Obviously, I come here to win races and I'm not satisfied with finishing in the top five every race." It is a step up from Williams for Russell, but the Briton is unlucky that, in his fourth season, he has yet to show he is capable of fighting with the front for victories.
Russell: "I have to look at it rationally and then I can't be disappointed with my results this year because at every race I have maximised the result." The Briton feels that after the long wait and hard fighting it is now time for him to go for the title: "I'm here for the long haul with this team, and I believe that this is the best place to be to give myself the best chance of World Championships if I look at it over the next five-year period."
