Russell: "The team deserved more"
Despite a decent showing in qualifying, finishing P2 just behind Max Verstappen George Russell was left disappointed by his attempts during Q3, feeling like the pole was definitely within reach.
"The team deserve more today. They've produced a good car this weekend and it's a testament to the hard work they have put in for so long. We saw last week with Lewis what the car was capable of and we saw this weekend, it felt like our pole to have." Russell said after the session.
But despite his dissapointment, Russell still remains optimistic about being on the front row.
"I just want to kick myself but at the end of the day no points for qualifying, but great to be on the front row."
Looking ahead
One thing that Russell can take with him into the race is the low percentage of race winners from pole at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez. In the last four races, not once has the pole sitter gone on to finish on the podium. Russell will be hoping that trend can continue tomorrow and he can claim his first victory for Mercedes.
