Vettel bows out in Formula 1: "I feel a bit empty to be honest"

Sebastian Vettel's Formula 1 career has come to an end. The four-time World Champion had a busy race, making plenty of overtakes. Vettel ended up securing one point but was fighting until the final lap with Daniel Ricciardo

Mixed emotions

Vettel didn't pull a miracle and finish in the podium places, but Formula One decided to interview him on the grid to say goodbye to one of the most popular drivers of all time. In his reaction, Vettel said he felt a bit empty following a busy weekend. "I feel a bit empty to be honest, it's been a big weekend," Vettel told Jenson Button.

"The last two years have been disappointing from a sporting point of view, but very important to me in my life. It's a huge privilege to be in the position we are in and with that comes responsibility. I hope to pass on to the other drivers to carry on the good work. We have the power to inspire you with what we say. Thank you for the support, messages, letters and love in general. I will miss that but it's been a joy throughout my career," Vettel added.

Summarising his final race in Formula 1, Vettel wasn't best pleased with the strategy that Aston Martin placed him on. He voiced his opinion on the team radio during the race, but also questioned it when doing the interview.

"We then opted to stay out, when the tyres were getting older we were going backwards. But once we committed to the one-stop that was it. Slower strategy, not enjoyable in the car when you're going backwards," Vettel concluded.
