The 2022 season is officially over. Max Verstappen ended the year with a fifteenth victory in Abu Dhabi. Mika Hakkinen has nothing but praise for the performance of the Dutchman and Red Bull Racing.
Verstappen holds a new record this season with fifteen wins in a single season. In doing so, he has beaten Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel. The Red Bull driver already secured his second world title in Japan.
"This race was just perfect for Max and underlined what a brilliant performance he and the Red Bull team have produced this season. Someone pointed out to me that in 1988 Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna won 15 Grands Prix from 16 races for McLaren, so for Max to do that himself is quite fantastic. He has speed and consistency", Hakkinen writes in his column for Unibet.
Charles Leclerc and Sergio Perez, meanwhile, battled for second place in the drivers' championship. The Mexican driver got closer and closer to the Monegasque's car in the closing stages of the race, but it was ultimately not enough to overtake the Ferrari driver. Leclerc took P2 in the championship with a three-point lead. Hakkinen believes he deserved the second spot.
Indeed, with nine pole positions and three wins, the Monegasque posed a "real threat" to Verstappen in the first half of the season. "To finish 2nd will definitely give him and everyone at Ferrari extra focus to challenge for the championship next year", says the former Formula One driver.
Max is a rat! He could have helped his teammate in Brazil, and he refused. He could have also backed up the Ferrari in the last race, but he was so focused on himself the record 15th win that he once again refused. He's a selfish, self-centered little rat who can't deal with finishing second. Next year he'll be bashing into Hamilton again to try to secure points. Max is headed for a meltdown!
Well that 1988 season was my favorite one. Both team mates had the same competive car and where allowed to race each other and that gave us one of the most epic seasons in F1 .
Both had huge talent, almost the same. But this year, Sergio is not at the Level of Max, not even close
The big diffrence is Prost and Senna made sure they had access that suited their talents. And the team let them race.
What a joke. If you're insinuating that they have different cars, just chat BRRRAKE. They even had Sergio have an updated floor in Spa. And don't get me started with the Vettel-Webber era where they prioritized Vettel - can be seen in the front wing change. CONVENTIONAL WISDOM IS OFTEN WRONG!
The team is making sure the car goes as fast as possible and the car goes faster with Max's configuration. Sergio has to adapt to the fastest car.
Thats not what I said. My post is about the team making sure the car suited the driving style of each driver. It was possible back then alone was not an issue. In this era the cars are developed ,like we see at Redbull, around the number one driver. So I find it difficult to draw any comparisons .
@Vegan Lewis and Valterri same competitive car. Lewis and George same competitive car. Which driver above was allowed to race? lol
Yes, they did, and they where allowed to race each other. If that was not the case VB would not have the 10 race wins which he did beat Lewis on track . This season, no the cars have been for most part of the season different, purely because the W13 has been so bad and split testing was the norm . VB,Russell,Rosberg
