Fireworks expected between Russell and Hamilton: 'Will be a great show'

Lewis Hamilton and George Russell have built a good relationship in 2022, but the relationship may look different next season if Mercedes manages to develop a car that allows the British drivers to compete for the world title. Driver and Sky Sports presenter Naomi Schiff thinks fireworks could yet begin between the teammates.
Mercedes has had a difficult year. The team spent the whole season fixing problems on the W13 to close the gap towards Red Bull Racing and Ferrari. In the closing stages of the season, the team was getting a lot closer and Russell even managed to win a race.
Especially in Brazil, it became clear that Russell and Hamilton were working harmoniously together. The seven-time world champion crossed the finish line second behind his teammate, but was incredibly happy for Russell, despite not winning a single race in 2022.
Fireworks at Mercedes in 2023?
If Mercedes is able to get back into the fight next year, Schiff expects we will see an entertaining dynamic between Hamilton and Russell. "Mercedes are in a very fortunate position because they have two extremely talented drivers in their team. I think George did a great job this year to outscore Lewis, but I think there’s been a lot behind that besides just pure on-track results," the driver says on Sky Sports.
"I think we’ll have a tough battle on our hands. If that car is in the place they expect it to be, I think it’s going to be fireworks. We’re going to see a great show", the presenter concludes. Mercedes is confident that the remaining problems can be solved during the winter break.
