On 10 February, Veekay was released, a three-part Prime Video series about Rinus 'Veekay' van Kalmthout. As the series shows, the Dutchman has impressed many a racing driver and engineer.
Veekay began his IndyCar career in 2020. Since then, the 22-year-old has already won one race and many saw him as a true talent from day one. Former Formula 1 driver Romain Grosjean, among others, speaks highly of the driver Veekay: “He pushes, I like that, he’s hungry for victory."
A rare talent
Ed Carpenter Racing technical director Matt Barnes, who has also taken on the role of Veekay's chief engineer, immediately recognized how special the Dutch driver is and calls the talent he possesses rare: "We did a test in Portland, first thing we would do with him, [he] got in the car and was faster than one of the Andretti cars. [Andretti] at the time was very competitive.”
It is hoped that with this 'rare' talent, Veekay can eventually fulfil his dream of winning the prestigious Indy 500.
