Vasseur on winter test results: 'Some things worked, some didn't'
- GPblog.com
Frédéric Vasseur made the switch from Alfa Romeo to Scuderia Ferrari last winter. Mattia Binotto left and Vasseur has swapped the Swiss team, for the top team from Italy. In an interview with Motorsport.com he spoke candidly about the tests of the past few days and opened up about his relationship with other team bosses.
Ferrari's French team boss revealed that he wants to wait to talk about Ferrari's competitiveness against other teams. However, he did say the following about the winter test: "We tested a lot, and some things worked and some things didn't." Ferrari did several tests, but it still lagged slightly behind Red Bull in terms of lap times. Vasseur himself does not think this was an issue: "It would have been a mistake to change our programme because Red Bull was at the top of the timesheet."
The lap times did not lie, with Ferrari consistently falling just short of the long end. On the first day of testing, Ferrari achieved a third and fourth best lap time of the day, before finishing lower on the second day. On the final day, Ferrari finished a little higher again, but there was no fastest lap time for the Scuderia. During the winter test, Ferrari and Red Bull drove almost the same number of laps. Ferrari came to 416 laps, Red Bull to 413.
Vasseur would not venture further on predictions or talk about the lap times themselves. Sainz did. Vasseur does not want to comment on the upcoming race weekend in Bahrain, so it remains to be seen what kind of results both Ferrari drivers will achieve.
