Leclerc believes: 'Of course the world title is still possible'
- GPblog.com
Ferrari's Charles Leclerc is not letting his head hang, saying his chances of winning the title are not gone yet. After all, it is still very early in the season. Yet the Monegasque seems to be saying this mainly so as not to demotivate himself and the team.
Last year it looked the same in Australia, but for Ferrari. During the starting phase of the 2022 season, Ferrari was the favourite for the title. Now that seems to be Red Bull Racing. The team of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez does look a lot more dominant after the first two races than Ferrari looked last year.
Title chances for Ferrari still possible
With Red Bull still winning the title last year from favourites Ferrari, Leclerc is also not ruling anything out for the 2023 title. Speaking to Sky Sports, the Ferrari driver says: "Of course [it is still possible]. It is very early in the season. We can't hide ourselves saying yet that everything is fine and that from this weekend onwards are fighting for wins again [...] But we shouldn't demotivate ourselves."
Leclerc expects a lot from the upcoming upgrades for Ferrari and hopes it will allow the team to grow towards Red Bull: "For now, Red Bull is in another league and Aston Martin is very strong in the race, but in no way we think the title is out of reach."
"We need to be realistic"
