After the spectacle during the weekend of the Miami Grand Prix, huge amounts of food were left over. The organisers have since informed CBS News that they will donate the leftover food.
Food in Miami was anything but cheap. Last Monday, GP Blog released an article in which we addressed the bizarre prices.
It has since been revealed that large amounts of food will be donated. Jonathan Cowan, executive chef of the Grand Prix tells CBS News that it is difficult to estimate how much food is left: "We want to make sure we want to have enough food for everybody to eat, well fed, well drank, enough beverage. Last year 90,000 pounds of food were left over, and this year with some experience, it's been fine tuned. I want to say we'll donate we'll donate about 20 to 30,000 pounds this year."
'Donating to people who need it'
For the organisation, there are several reasons to donate the leftover food: "We don't need to be making more food we just need to be saving it and repurposing it and feeding people who need it. And by keeping the food out of the landfill we're actually helping the environment because decomposing food methane gas which is actually more harmful than CO2 to the environment."
