McLaren brings in Red Bull chief: 'Very pleased and exciting'
It was announced on Tuesday afternoon that Rob Marshall, the chief engineering officer at Red Bull Racing, is making the move to McLaren's team. Team boss Andrea Stella is very happy with the reinforcement at his team.
Marshall is quitting his current team with immediate effect, but may not start work with his new employer just yet. The frontman will only start work at McLaren from January next year, where the Briton will become the new Technical Director, Engineering & Design (head designer).
Stella happy with Marshall
So after seventeen years working at Red Bull, Marshall is now making the move to McLaren. "At the moment we are just very pleased and excited that Rob is keen to join our journey to take McLaren to the front of the grid," Stella said at theteam bosses' press conference.
Earlier, McLaren brought in reinforcement with Ferrari-born David Sanchez and with Marshall, the technical department at McLaren will be further strengthened. But according to Stella, there will be no new reinforcements for the time being. "I think the technical structure is well set now and quite strong, so I would take one day off."
'Rob keen to join us'
In the press conference, Stella says that Marshall himself wanted to join McLaren. "Rob was very keen to join McLaren. He understood perfectly our journey, our ambition. I think he understood that he could be a fundamental player in trying to make something important like bringing McLaren to the victory. So strong motivation from his side."
