Perez still maintains confidence: 'I will come back, I am strong'
Sergio Perez had hoped to fight for the world title with Red Bull teammate Max Verstappen this season. After a couple of disappointing races, the gap is a whopping 69 points to the Dutchman, and the pressure on the Mexican is increasing sharply. Perez knows he will soon find his form again, writes Motorsportweek.
The six-time race winner did not progress beyond sixth place in Canada after a very disappointing qualifying session. Perez says he is very worried about his own speed and wants to investigate this with Red Bull. "We’re going to be working hard together with the team back home to make sure that we figure out what’s happening at the moment," he commented.
Perez knows he is strong
After disappointing results in Canada, Spain and Monaco, Perez needs to recoup himself. "It is what it is. I think it’s something that mentally you have to be strong, and I’m strong." Therefore, he is confident of finding his way up again: "I know I will overcome this difficult period of basically two races. In Monaco, yes, I made a mistake, and it was a bad weekend, but I think without that we had the pace."
After street races in Bahrain, Jeddah and Baku, this looked like it could be the Mexican's year, although it is known that he has something special in store on street circuits. It will be a while before the next street race. It is not until mid-September that the Formula One circus flies to Singapore. Next week in Austria, Perez has the chance to recuperate at the Red Bull Ring.
